Golf Balls – The Science Behind The Dimples

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

The dynamics behind the flight of the golf ball offers a fascinating insight into the physical interworkings of air pressure, turbulence, and aerodynamics.

When golf was first played in Scotland, most players played using clumsy golf apparatus, with the first golf clubs and golf balls made of wood.

In 1618 the “Featherie” was introduced. It was a golf ball made of feather. This feather golf ball was handcrafted from goose feathers tightly pressed into a horse or cowhide sphere while still wet. After drying, the leather shrank and the feathers expanded, creating a hardened golf ball.

As this type of golf ball was specially handcrafted, it was usually more expensive than golf clubs, so that only a few privileged people could afford to play golf back then.

After the Featherie golf ball came the Guttie golf ball. This type of golf ball was made from the rubber-like sap of the Gutta tree found in the tropics, and was shaped into a sphere when hot and eventually into a golf ball. As it was made of rubber, the Guttie golf ball could be cheaply produced and easily repaired by reheating and reshaping.

Comparing the two types of golf balls, the Featherie golf ball was said to travel farther than the Guttie golf ball because the Guttie golf ball’s smooth surface prevented it from covering more distance.

With this discovery, the developers of golf balls came up with the “dimpled” golf balls that are so predominant in modern golf nowadays.

The dimples on the golf balls help reduce the aerodynamic drag. Aerodynamic drag normally affects smooth golf balls and slows them down, because when they sail through the air, they leave a pocket of low-pressure air in its stir thus creating a drag.

By applying dimples to the golf ball surface, the pressure differential goes down and the drag force is reduced. These dimples create turbulence in the air surrounding the golf ball, which, in turn, forces the air to clasp the golf ball more closely. By doing so, the air trails the warp created by the golf ball towards the back instead of flowing past it. This results in a smaller wake and lesser drag.

Dimples were first added onto golf ball surfaces back during the gutta percha phase. Coburn Haskell introduced the one-piece rubber cored golf ball encased in a gutta percha sphere. Then in 1905 William Taylor applied the dimple pattern to a Haskell golf ball, thus giving rise to the modern golf ball as we know it today.

After its beginning, dimpled golf balls were officially used in every golf tournament. In 1921, the golf ball took its current form with standard size and weight. Nowadays there is a wide range of golf balls to fit every style, game and condition, with some golf balls offering control, and other golf balls offering distance.

Though a common sight nowadays, the dimpled golf ball is not just a mere element of the sports arena; it is a showcase of physics at work.

Presenting Financial Figures

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Numbers are essential tools used in the decision-making process in a company. Effective management entails the proper use of financial figures. But a lot of people have a fear of numbers stemming from unpleasant experiences with them during their school years. In order to understand and use numbers fear must be overcome first. Understanding will then follow; you will know what numbers can tell and what they can not tell. You will know when it is appropriate to use them and when it is not. You will come to know their limitations. Only at this time will figures become a useful tool for making decisions and enhancing the quality of decisions.

Decision-making in a company usually involves presenting financial figures to several managers, not all of whom have backgrounds in finance. The objectives of presenting financial figures to them are to educate and inform them of the financial performance of the company and convince them of future trends that must be considered in order to give direction to the company. This means that the presentation must be clear and comprehensible to the audience. It is not enough to print out financial statements, hand them out and discuss them line by line. This will not accomplish understanding and clarity. Doing away almost completely with figures and financial terms and steering away from technical discussions is tempting because it may seem easier and simpler, but neither will it achieve the goals of educating, informing and convincing the audience.

A better approach to presenting financial figures is to try to level the financial understanding of the attendees. He should put himself in their shoes and think of ways to incorporate financial terms and figures in his presentation in an easily understandable manner, explaining along the way the terms that can not be replaced with layman’s terms.

To prepare for the challenge of presenting financial figures, the presenter must first select the most critical numbers, making sure that all assumptions or basis for each are explained. Decide also which financial terms and concepts are needed for the presentation and how these terms can be explained in layman’s terms.

It is a good idea to develop an outline of your presentation showing the objectives, critical financial concepts or principles and critical figures. This will serve as a guide for the flow of your presentation.

The presentation should start with an explanation of the objectives. Tell the audience what you wish to accomplish and give them a summary of the discussion points. Establish clearly the importance of understanding the critical concepts that you are including in your presentation. Tell the audience why they need to understand the concepts. To explain the concepts, you can relate them to some familiar and ordinary situations. Analogies can be used as a tool to accomplish this. To maintain your audience’s attention throughout the presentation, keep referring back to your familiar and ordinary situations that you used as examples so that your audience can keep up with the story that you are trying to tell. Take short breaks to let the audience absorb the ideas and figures and encourage them to ask questions.

Appraisal Systems – Not Living Up to Their Objectives

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Almost, if not all organisations have them, they’ve been around for a very long time and some organisations swear by them, however on the whole the average appraisal system fails to live up to the expectations of the organisation and often they can cause more trouble than they are worth.

“So, minister, here we are at the end of your government and the record doesn’t look to good, crime is up, hospital care down, the economy still shaky and poor public services. It certainly doesn’t look good for you or your party, do you think you measured up to your objectives?” This could be a typical question for any Government on any political review programme and is one that would be difficult to answer. It is rare that those in power are really appraised by anyone other than a tough question by the press, so if those in power don’t have formal appraisal processes why do organisations believe that a formal, rigid process will work any better?

Many appraisal systems start out with the best of intentions. Organisations are keen to find out who their top people are and how they are performing, sometimes the appraisal system is used as a down sizing tool to identify the ‘less desirable’ portion of the organisation. Sometimes the annual appraisal round is tied to a reward system (pay rises and bonuses being the main culprits) and often they are tied in with promotion processes.

At a senior level appraisal systems are looked on as the best way to measure staff performance at grass roots level however the picture is very different with cynicism being the main feeling especially in organisations and industries where reward has been thin on the ground.

A Short History of Appraisal Systems

Appraisal systems have been around since the industrial revolution when they were used to measure the production of a workforce. There were clear definable objectives, produce x number of widgets by Friday, they were by default ‘SMART’ and very much tied reward as the workers salary was often based upon weekly production.

In today’s service economy the connection of objectives to production starts to look a little bizarre as often there is no direct connection between service delivery and effort required to produce it. For example software development is not based upon the number of lines of code produced but on the quality of the finished product, sales are rarely based upon the number of calls made but more likely on the relationship between the salesman and the customer, and the quality of material produced by a marketing professional will be almost impossible to quantify.

So Why Do We Still Have Goal Based Appraisal Systems?

This is mostly due to work conducted in the 1950’s and 1960’s around the area of objectives. Research was done into the effectiveness of objectives on individual performance and it was found that by allowing individuals to set Specific, Measurable and Realistic goals that were possible to Achieve and had a Time limit imposed upon them then the chances are they would perform better than being given less defined sets of objectives.

Much of this work was done in the Psychology lab and involved highly motivated research students. Although this work has been validated in real life the results are not as clear cut as were originally thought and a number of other variables were found that appear to have been left off of the list

Appraisal Systems – Where Does it All Go Wrong?

So, we have a measurement system based upon 19th century innovation in mass production and a goal setting mechanism based upon 1950’s psychology research, not a particularly good start. So what’s left? There are a whole range of issues around the appraisal process which also need to be considered, the top concerns are:

1. Halo and Horns – This is something often mentioned in literature regarding job interviews but appears to be completely ignored when appraisal time comes around. The Halo and Horns effect is the appraisers personal view of the appraised based not upon cold hard facts but on the unconscious internal appraisal by the appraiser. Two individuals both with exactly the same production record can be given widely varying reviews based upon the perception of the reviewer skewing the results in favour of a particular personality type.

2. Good cop/Bad cop – The quality of an appraisal system depends heavily upon the consistency of the reviewers. In an ideal situation all individuals within an organisation will be reviewed by one individual, however in anything but the smallest business this is impractical and you are left with the impact of human variance.

3. Hearsay or Heresy – One of the biggest issues in large organisations is history, not of the company although that is important, but of the individual and like all histories it is written by the winners and not the losers. In an appraisal situation the history created around an individual can be very destructive and will influence the Halo and Horns effect.

4. Voter Apathy – When the psychological work on objective setting was done in the 1950’s and 1960’s it was based upon the study of conscientious and motivated individuals. The later work on objectives in the organisations highlighted as one of the critical issues (and one that has been largely ignored) of the enthusiasm and motivation of the staff for the appraisal system itself. The concept of buy-in is an important one and one that is often overlooked by corporations introducing review systems. The staff being reviewed must agree with the process and accept it as useful otherwise the impact of any review will be of little use.

5. R.E.S.P.E.C.T – This is a reversal of the Halo and Horns effect in that this applies to the reviewer and not the reviewed. For any feedback to be accepted and effective it needs to come from a respected source, it needs to be consistent and it also needs to be timely.

6. Timing is everything – Perhaps the greatest failing of organisations when reviewing the performance of staff (whether it be good or bad) often the delay between the behaviour and the review for both good and bad behaviour often to a point where the issue is no longer relevant.

7. Feedback, the breakfast of champions – Feedback is always considered an important part of the review process however feedback, and it’s counter-part Constructive Criticism have been overused as ways of telling people how they got it wrong, rather than what they got right, and often the feedback process completely misses the point of only focusing on bad behaviour rather than reinforcing good behaviour which is a better use of the process.

So, is it all gloomy for the appraisal system? Should they be scrapped all together? Perhaps measuring staff production is not the way to go? Maybe there is a better approach.

Building a Better Mouse Trap

There are some simple steps that can revolutionise the way that staff are managed throughout the year but they do require some effort on the part of the business however it can pay real dividends in staff motivation and improving performance.

1. Catch people doing things right – this is old advice and yet in many organisations it has been ignored or just become management mantra without embracing the fundamental concepts. Not only is it about identifying when people do a good job but actually rewarding it. If your organisation values innovation, then reward the innovators even if you don’t like or agree with the innovation.

2. No-one makes mistakes – if you really want to create an outstanding appraisal process then start with the premise that there are no mistakes just learning experiences. This can sound a little silly, however if you believe that people do the best they can then this ceases to be a stumbling block and if someone makes a ‘mistake’ it is probably a misunderstanding of their capability.

3. PRISM© not SMART – Over the years much has been made of SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time bound) and these have worked for many however there are some things that are lacking from this and PRISM© objectives are much more effective:

Personal – For any objective to be effective it needs to be set by and for the individual. Many organisations like to set corporate objectives that everyone signs up to, however in reality unless there is a real motivation to then most individuals will just pay lip service to the idea. Objectives set by and for the individual are automatically bought in to by that individual.

Realistic – In the old SMART world objectives had to be Realistic and Achievable, in reality for something to be truly realistic it has to be achievable. In the PRISM© world for a goal to be realistic it must be achievable.

Interesting – For anyone setting objectives for themselves or in the corporate space an objective that is interesting (and enjoyable) is far more likely to be fulfilled than something that an individual has to do.

Specific – As has been found by all of the goal setting experiments of the past 50 years a goal needs to be specific for it to be really effective. For a goal to be truly specific it needs to include a completion date and is therefore time bound.

Measurable – In PRISM© terms this means what will you be, do or have when the objective has been reached. What tangible thing can you wave in front of people to show you have achieved your goal.

4. Give real feedback – This means telling people when things have gone badly or that their behaviour is causing a problem but it is not ‘constructive criticism’. If someone does a good job 95% of the time and for 5% of their time they make a hash of it then focus on the 95% rather than the 5%. Appraisal processes and appraisers should think carefully before they focus on the 5%-10% of an individual that is ‘underperforming’ lest they undermine the 90% that is performing. Perfection is not something that should be aimed for – improvement is.

The Big Question

At the end of the day organisations need to think about their appraisal process and maybe even question the purpose of the annual appraisal. Exactly what are they trying to measure and what the real benefit to the business is? The important question isn’t about how to appraise staff but whether the supposed benefits outweigh the very real damage that appraisal processes can do to well meaning businesses.

“Well, we’ve made significant changes in the way services are delivered, which will have many benefits in the long term, and our record on social reform is excellent…” is a likely response from any government official, does this mean he’s met his objectives? Possibly, but we’ll never know since we never do get to hear what his or for that matter what any political leaders personal objectives are, just like many appraisals what you hear is a well spun story to convince, rather than a statement on the real performance.

Try a Big Dildo for a Brilliant Orgasm with your Lady

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Some guys have a hard time keeping a hard pecker and some women have exceedingly long sex drives, meaning it will take her a long time to come. Because of this difference in sex drives, sex may become a frustrating and unsatisfying session. That’s why slim dildos might be helpful. If the bloke shoots early in the sexual session, or even if the girl just takes longer than her bloke, he can continue to penetrate the girl with the huge dildo. That way all sexual activity does not stop. It gives the guy substantial time to recharge his energy and also keeps the chick happy. And so when he is set up to come back into the session, the female will still be aroused enough to accept the male.

Your most erogenous area is your brain. And as much as lots of girls will not admit this, the penis is a symbol of power, no matter how big or little, it is still associated with power. Penetrating your wife with a large dildo can only make a fantasy of power play reality.

Some girls like the sensation of feeling full in their vagina or bottom. Whenever a sex toy such as a large dildo, penetrates the vagina or bottom, the muscles contract around it. Loads of girls find the tightening of these muscles to be extremely enjoyable. Never spend an evening bored with Sex Toys available online.

What Direction Are Laptops Headed In

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Everyone requires laptop computers it seems. How did we ever exist without them? The battery shortage predicament is not going to aide the circumstances either. Its actually incredible that credit troubles and all haven’t dented this demand for laptop computers either. The technology intervals are so tiny too which makes it all the more challenging.

Gaming laptops have recently been attracting a lot of appeal. With prices dropping and new technology being introduced rather fast it means that people are getting greater value. For those who need portability, the performance laptops offer in relation to playing games shouldn’t be frowned upon much longer as speed is improved. Power aside, also worthy of a mention is the drastically slim chassis designs we are seeing these days. Even though gaming laptops have advanced in numerous areas, in terms of pure speed they still can’t rival with desktops. Everybody always craves to extract silly amounts of juice from compact packages so I would expect thats where gaming laptops are destined.

For the niche customers using notebook computers] for a particular reason, custom laptops give the flexibility desired. The advantage with some custom laptops is that you get good after market parts fitted in them. It just provides the end user greater options at the end of the day. Many of the notebook computers found in highstreet stores are aimed to capture the maximum market share and not the smaller niche sectors. So plainly this is why you require a custom laptop. I think one also gets superior customer service when purchasing a custom laptop. Yet again an additional point to custom built laptops.

Next gen laptops do seem like a tantalising proposition. One topic I haven’t spoken off is the development of low cost ultramobiles. I was not expecting a large number of people to like the device. I want to see a bigger edition of these cheap ultra mobiles. I think it would be a great success. I thing forming an appealing price mark is a giant roadblock in all this. Sure enough the technology is present. The way the market is evolving I can tell gaming laptops will become slimmer. All the companies are seeking to introduce the next gigantic product so it’ll be exciting to see.

Got Fleas?

Author of Keep Fleas Off

Still using all the chemicals you can find to combat those fleas? Have you done everything outside of trying to shoot the fleas off the dog? You are not alone, there are an estimated more than 50 million households with pets, and yes, most are not just fighting the war against these pesky parasites, they are losing the war. Most people do not realize just how devastating the losses are. If only 10 per cent of these pet owners are treating the yard for fleas, can your imagine the amount of harmful chemicals that is getting into the ground water? These chemicals make their way to the sea where they have been found in fish and the seabirds that feed on fish. Clean water is a valuable resource, we cannot afford to destroy it. Think about all the chemicals put in our water now just to make it “safe to drink”; if you want to believe that it is.

Bathe your pet with a so-called flea shampoo, and you leave behind a petrochemical residue that can be unsafe for the pet and the household. If that is not bad enough, the pet will lick himself and yes, take an oral dose. Go into any grocery store and head for the pet care aisle. If you smell the flea products in the store, you are experiencing a nose full of their off-gassing. Face it, chemicals off-gas.

Perhaps, you think that flea powder is a better choice. Guess again! After holding your poor animal down long enough to sift this disagreeable stuff into his fur, he is going to shake off as much of it as possible, and who could blame him. This fine dust will migrate into anything around, the carpet, the furniture, and maybe even your own hair. It is sure to get up your nose. Maybe this is the universe trying to get you to stop this harmful practice. At any rate, now the flea powder is further out into the pet’s fur, clearing the way for the fleas to continue to travel the skin on the pet, biting him and leaving behind debris. At minimum, you have fouled the environment, and you probably did the powdering inside your home. Since we have all probably done it, don’t beat yourself up, at least not the first time.

Flea collars are another dangerous choice that we have all made. The poison is right there on the collar for the purpose of rubbing off onto the pet. Will it rub off on anything else, like the hands of a small child, or even your own? You bet! Does your pet sleep in his collar? In your bed? What do you think is happening here? Essentially, we are just rubbing heaven knows what kind of chemicals all over us when we sleep with a pet that is wearing a poison necklace. Should you quit associating with your pet? Absolutely not! Pets are a valuable part of our lives. They offer companionship and teach us a lot as well.
Just show them more respect and stop using those awful flea collars.

Continuing your sojourn through the parasite jungle, the veterinarian’s office is probably going to be your next stop. Aha! The flea dip. It has to work! Well, why not, it contains a contact killer, and because you got it from the vet you will assume it safe. Maybe it will kill the fleas that showed up on the pet today. Of course, submerging him in this poison means that some of it will be absorbed into the pet’s skin. Cats are especially sensitive, and dips have been known to kill some. It makes many sick. If it poisoned or weakened your pet, would you know what to look for? How many hours would you need to monitor your pet? When you pour out the dip, where does the poison go? So many questions, so many freaky answers. This should steer you away from flea dips.

The average pet owner is pretty sure that a flea spray for misting the pet on a regular basis will not only work, but is a real easy solution. Coating the outside of the hair doesn’t work because the fleas will travel under it along the skin where the blood cells can be reached. Use this method, only if you want a toxic cloud that will float above the pet for you to breathe, or maybe, it will make its way into your air conditioning ducts and be well distributed throughout your home. Remember that these sprays contain poisons. If we breathe them in, our bodies can store them. Many people will think that this is just the price that must be paid, after all this is a war on fleas! The bigger question here is: “Do you really want your home to become a toxic waste site?” The residue spewed into your environment is going to stay there until someone cleans it up. And depending upon how you go about the clean up, you could just be making it worse, especially if you are using chemicals for the cleanup. Unless you are a chemist, don’t assume that it is safe to mix one chemical with another.

Of course, you could always use pet meds, that is, medicine for the fleas that the pet must take. That hardly seems fair! Would you be able to tell how bad your pet feels from the side effects? At one time or another we have all taken a medication that we found to be disagreeable. The problem here is one of communication. The pet cannot tell you that the medicine does not suit him.

So, now you are ready for the weapons of “vast destruction”. You go for the big guns. You will start using the poison to the back of the neck. That ought to take care of them, if the fleas come along first, before little hands. Of course, the liquid can be absorbed into the skin of the pet getting into his blood stream and going to all parts of his body. Most hearts and livers don’t really require poisons. How about yourself, did you absorb any? Did you breathe in any vapors? Does the product continue to emit vapors? If you can smell it, maybe you already know that the vapors are there. Keep in mind that many of the spot treatments contain chemicals that are known to be neurotoxins. Like most of the population, you did not read the label, nor would you recognize the names of any neurotoxins. And you probably would not know that neurotoxins can affect the brain. Your pet may develop a twitch from a neurotoxin. Don’t you wonder if the same thing could happen to you? While the pet is in the most danger from this, the person applying it is not home free! This stuff can rub off and be distributed anywhere in the environment of the pet, affecting any life form in this environment. It is important to realize that the difference between poisons to kill fleas and poisons to kill higher life forms is simply the size of the dose. Since our bodies can store and accumulate poisons from the environment, we have no way of knowing what could be in store for us as a result of exposure to these poisons.

Recently, there were more than 28,000 sites, on just one search engine, on the internet related to pesticide poisoning from flea products. No matter what the reasons were, the poisoning happened because the products were available, and a reasonably logical person thought them safe for use. We readily accept whatever we are used to seeing. Harmful flea products are in the mainstream of our lives. Just go to any big food store, home improvement store, drug store, pet food store, and yes, even the Walmart, and you can find an arsenal for combating fleas.

Until 1990, I used everything available for flea control. After many bad experiences, I realized that I was declaring chemical warfare on my pets, my home, my yard, the environment, and on myself as well. Knowing that this had to stop, if I were going survive, I set out to find a pesticide-free way to keep fleas off my cats. My first step was to eliminate everything that had not worked for me in my war against fleas. So, I had to forget all the flea products that I knew about. Living in Florida, meant combing off the fleas every hour if the cats went out on the screened porch, but I did it, in addition to wearing out a good vacuum cleaner. After a couple of years of trial and error, I developed a simple, cheap, and safe method that is so effective that the cats seem to be “invisible to fleas”. Not only am I happy to be able to keep fleas off my cats, but I feel good about giving up my life of crime against the environment.

There are many sites on the internet where you can find out all the names of the harmful chemicals used in flea products. Anti-pesticide groups offer a lot of valuable information, as does the NRDC (National Resource Defense Council) and the CDC (Center for Disease Control). Even some animal rescue organizations post warning against certain products. Personally, I think that the terms KEEP OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN and WASH YOUR HANDS AFTER HANDLING should give us the clues we need. Plain and simple, do not use these products, there is something unsafe about them. Trust me, the manufacturer is not just adding this information to make the label larger. There had to be a law somewhere that forced them to put these warnings on. Restrictions of this sort don’t surface until harm has been done, and until a lot of action has been taken by environmental groups. Your best course of action is to do the research yourself. Do not wait for the mainstream (corporate) media to inform you about what to use to keep fleas off your pet. The information that they decide you should have is influenced by advertising dollars from the chemical industry.

Visit the NRDC flea product information sites and some Anti-pesticide group sites. They can be real eye openers. While you are looking at their sites, I hope you will take a few minutes to visit the KEEP FLEAS OFF site at: http://www.liquorman.net/keepfleasoff/.

I suggest that you download information concerning the flea poisons, and use it as a guide to help protect your environment. After all, we are not just what we eat, but what we absorb through our skins and what we breathe into our lungs. Once a substance gets into your bloodstream, it has access to every cell that you own. One of the few powers, that you still have, is the power to control the environment in your home, USE IT!

Nell is an artist (clay and glass), origionally from NC, and has lived in Florida for 20 years. Currently, she has two cats, one raised from a rescued kitten and the other adopted from the pound, when the cat was four years old. In addition to her art, she works part-time testing computer software systems.

Two Strong Weapons for Business Popularity Part 1

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Many people think that writing of press releases is only for professional PR specialists and marketing people. This article shows you how easy is it to write your own press release. The next article will show you how to use search engines to promote your business with the help of press releases.

It differs if you are writing an advertising article or a press release. If you are able to find the difference, you have already done the most important step in the right direction for writing your own press release. If not then you have to know that writing a press release is informative, writing for advertising is strikingly. Both methods should help you increasing your sales.

Actually there are few steps and rules you need to follow to start writing your press releases today.

Step one: Find out what you want to tell the reader

Take a paper and write down some notes about your business. Your notes should be focused on your strongest points which your company treats. I mean with “strongest” the highest profitable things your business can do for your clients. After you finish writing down your notes, read them once again. Try to find the best one of them.
It helps if you tray to think like somebody else or other person who is in need of information about your own business and information about what profit he gets if he has this information.

Step Two: Writing the short text

Once again take a paper and explain the best note you’ve found out before. Your explanation should not be longer than 6-8 sentences. Think.. If you are writing about something which the others don’t know what it is, it will be required to include short information about your subject. The first three sentences and the headline too are the most critical points of writing your press release. In those parts you can show the reader how important is it to continue reading. Be careful, it could be also the point that the reader stops reading your article.
A good advice is to start with something which the reader can figure out and should be related somehow to your business.

Step Three: Writing the main part

After writing the first section of your press release prepare for the next part. Press releases include usually a name of person ( CEO or Marketer ) who explains a product or a certain service. It’s also usual to add some quotes said by this person. Here you can start to write three or four sentences then end the paragraph by adding the related quote. Write only reasonable statements and avoid any requests to buy or order a product from the reader. Don’t forget you are writing an informative article. Use words like “we know” and don’t use words like “I think” or “I hope”. So you can win the reader trust and present your firm as an expert. Write about 2 or three paragraphs according to those rules shown in this step.

Step Four: Writing the Company Information

Some reader would like to contact your company. In this section write the name and the post address of your company, the name of contact person and his phone number and if possible his e-mail address. A link to you website would be also required.

Step Five: Writing your own Information

Your contact information shows the reader who wrote this press release. Make it possible for the reader that she / he can contact you if she / he have questions.

Step Six: Headline

Many people start writing a press release by thinking about the headline. I don’t. The reason is that I’ve always found a better headline while writing my press releases. I decided to let this step done at the end. So I don’t have to change my headline while writing the other information.

In this most important step, read your press release several times. Use the information you wrote to get the best possible HEADLINE. Think…. If you receive an e-mail and find the subject interesting, you will decide to read it. If not you will delete it after a second. After reading your release take some notes or points about it’s summary. Try to find one eye caching sentence. The sentence should be:

. Easy to understand.

. It should treat directly the subject of your press release.

. The number of words should be between four and eight.

Ask yourself “Would I read the content of this press release if I see this headline?”. If negative try it once more.

TIP: People are interested in solutions and answers of critical questions beginning with “how can I solve?” or “What can I do for?” which are meeting their needs, solving some problems or helping them improving their business.
