Bangkok Attractions – Places And Activities You Musn’t Miss

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Going to Bangkok for your holidays? Here are 10 must see Bangkok attractions and must do activities in the city of of angels.

1. Get on a river taxi and see the beauty of the Chao Praya River.
A very different view of Bangkok I’ve got to say. If you’re the adventurer, you can just jump on one at any of its terminals. Just be fast enough as the boats ( water taxis ) hardly stop. Otherwise, book a tour from one of the hotels by the river such as The Royal Orchid Sheraton, Shangri la or The Peninsula.

2. Rub elbows with the locals and tourists at the Weekend market, Chatuchak/Jatujak
It can get very hot in here but it’s an excellent place to see the wares of Thailand. You might even find a good buy along the way. Thai ( and not so Thai ) goods available from antique furniture to fake jeans.

3.See the wonders of the Grand Palace
All hail the Queen of England, but her Buckingham Palace is nothing compared to this glorious work of art in the middle of Bangkok.

4.Have a Thai massage in Wat Po and if you have the time, take the 10-day Thai Massage course
If you don’t get a Thai massage in Thailand then you haven’t been to Thailand at all. Experience this somewhat bone breaking yet de-stressing technique right from where it originated. Or if that’s a bit too much, go for the foot massage instead.

5.Have A Relaxing Spa At The Banyan
A relaxing spa retreat right in the middle of the city. You can choose from a 1 hour facial treatment or if you have time to spare, have a 7 hour Banyan package and spoil yourself mad.

6.Visit the Floating Market
It may just be another commercial avenue for tourists to spend their dollars, but if you go to the floating market early in the morning when the “river-folk” are actually buying and selling goods mindless of the tourists, then it’s a very good cultural experience.

7.Haggle at the night markets
Sure many goods are over-priced but if you know how to haggle and how much you’re willing to pay for what you’re buying, this can be very fun. If you go very early, just when the shops are opening, you might even get the prices real low ( first buyers luck!)

8.Shop Till You Drop
Shopping is the Thai’s national past time and wherever you are in Bangkok, you will never run out of shops to explore. You’ll find practically everything in this City Of Angels and at very reasonable prices to boot. For reasonable priced clothes, go to Pratunum Market; for little trinkets, go to Yaowarat in Chinatown; for bargain software, go to Panthip plaza, and for designer clothes, try Central Plaza or The Emporium Shopping Center.

9.Try Thai cuisine
You’ve had Thai food in your country and I’m sure it’s good; but Thai food cooked in Thailand, is in my opinion, just heavenly! Just be sure to know the words, Mai Pet ( My Pet ). This means not spicy in Thai, but you’ll probably be wondering how hot the spicy dishes are after you’ve bit into your first chilli!

10.See An Elephant Show
I know they should be in the wild and all that…but if I were an elephant, this humiliation of dancing in front of amused humans is much better than the alternative which is walking on the hot streets of Bangkok waiting for tourists to buy me a piece of sugar cane for food. And I have to say, this is one show I enjoy. Watch out for the baby elephants! They’re a real treat!

Where Rock Meets La Roca – Rock Reigns Supreme in the House that Hagar Built

Monday, December 29th, 2008

For those of you who know Cabo’s history like I do, you know that there wasn’t much to the town back in the 80’s. Dirt roads, a few hotels, makeshift bars and some fishing boats were about all that was there back then. It was during those early days of Cabo that well-known rocker, Sammy Hagar, discovered the beauty of the area. After having experienced Cabo, Hagar came away with a vision. Create a club where not only he could come and play whenever the mood struck him, but a club where just about anyone who was so inclined could hop on stage and show off their licks. Some thought it a pipe dream including Hagar’s partner in the project, Jorge Viana.

Persistence paid off and paid off big for Sammy. After finally convincing Jorge that
he was dead serious (by bringing him up to the States as a guest at one of his
concerts) the two came to agreement on developing the club. With Hagar’s new gig
as front man for the group Van Halen, the task of advancing the project from
concept to construction fell into Jorge’s capable hands. The two found a suitable
piece of property and put together a contest to choose the project’s architect. The
job was awarded to Cabo local, Marco Monroy.

Hagar returned to his touring schedule with Van Halen and Marco handled the
daunting job of constructing the club. Although Hagar had seen the plans and liked
what he saw, he didn’t notice that all the measurements where in square meters,
not square feet. In his mind, the size of the club was just perfect. Imagine his
surprise when he next made it to Cabo and, with the club nearly complete,
discovered that it was big… way too big! To late to do anything about the size,
Hagar pressed on, planning the grand opening.

Van Halen members agreed to help out by performing at the opening, complete with
MTV coverage and press from around the world. Hagar, feeling that he owed the
boys in the band for doing so, opened financial participation options up to them.
Things went great from the start, mostly due to the buzz created and the successful
grand opening concert. But once the initial excitement wore off, the club began to
lose money. With little fanfare, all the members of Van Halen pulled out of the
investment leaving Hagar to pay the bills.

Poor management, no more partners and mounting bills, Marco approached Sammy
and the two formed a partnership with Marco taking the reins as the manager. That
was in 1994 and since then, Cabo Wabo has become one of the most successful
clubs in Baja. Every night of the week, live bands perform. Frequently, other famous
rock musicians pop in for impromptu performances. As many of you know, there is
no shortage of actors who have dreams of being rock stars and they too have been
known to plug-in and show their stuff. Sammy’s vision of creating a club for both
performers and serious partiers is a reality and with it’s constant growth in
popularity, Cabo Wabo will no doubt be rocking La Roca (the big rock at Land’s End)
for a long, long time.

The biggest night of the year is Sammy’s Annual Birthday Bash, a two-week rock
fest with bands competing to open for Sammy on October 1st. The amazing thing
about Sammy’s Birthday Bash is that tickets are free and are doled out two at a time
on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 8:00 AM the day of the show. There
are dinner shows that carry a price tag, so if you can’t get out of bed early enough
to get your free tickets, you can always fork over the $40 for a dinner show ticket.

Music isn’t the only draw here either. Sammy prides himself on his on-site
restaurant that serves up some of the best dishes in Cabo. Try their lobster burritos,
I have and have never been disappointed. Other favorites include; Grilled Halibut
Cheeks-Cabo Style; Grilled Prawns with Cabo Wabo Tequila Vinaigrette; Pan Seared
Sea Scallops with Tequila and Lime; and Sammy Hagar’s Cabo Wabo Drunken
Shrimp. If you’ve spotted a theme there, just know that guests aren’t the only ones
having joined the party!

If you’re looking for a bit of Cabo’s wild side, this is a great place to start. The best
time to arrive is around 9:00 PM for nightly shows. The place really starts to jump
an hour or so later and just keeps getting wilder and wilder. For more info on Cabo
Wabo, visit http://www.cabowabo.com on the net. For more in depth information on

Thailand – The Land of Smiles and Cheap Travel

Monday, December 29th, 2008

Thailand is known as the land of smiles, which is amazing considering the traffic jams in Bangkok. For budget travelers, Thailand simply can’t beat on price alone.

Thailand

Thailand is an odd mix of contrasts. It can be extremely stressful while trying to get around in Bangkok and gloriously relaxing while laying on practically any of the beaches that populate the coast of the country. Regardless of the situation, the Thais have a habit and custom or smiling regardless of what you ask or how you ask it.

Beaches

The beaches of Thailand need no introduction. Used as the setting for hundreds of movies, they come in a variety of styles. The beaches of Phuket and Phi Phi fall along the lines of traditional beach resort areas like you might find in a place such as Cancun, Mexico or Tamarindo, Costa Rica. On the other end of the scale, you can find more rustic beach areas in places like the island of Ko Chang where you’ll have a few beach bungalows, a couple of bars and one or two stores. If you’re looking for a little of both styles, just ask around.

Da North

Infatuated with the beach life, many people fail to head up country when in Thailand. This is a mistake as the north is the host to such locations as the city of Chang Mai, the Summer Palace of the King of Thailand and interesting little villages. For the outdoor enthusiasts, rafting, hiking and mountain biking are very popular and widely available.

Prices

If you’re on a budget, Thailand is a perfect travel destination. For some reason, flights to Thailand are particularly cheap with my recent flight on Korean Airlines running roughly $650 round trip. Once in country, your money will go a long, long way.

I think a note of caution is need at this point. Please beware. If you decide to take a trip to Thailand, you won’t want to come back to your native country. You will, however, definitely come back to Thailand!

Buy Tellies Online Today

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

With brand new hi-tech advancements such as digital TV, High Def TV, Freesat & home cinema systems, if you’re existing telly set is older than five years old, then this moment is a fantastic time to get a brand new telly. But, as equipment is improved roughly almost on a weekly basis, procuring a new telly machine might be exceedingly difficult & perplexing.

This TV guide tries to present an insight on all the recent technological innovations that will guarantee to take your telly enjoyment to a different new level.

Hi Def Television: Perhaps the most significant development to TV since the invention of colour technology, High-Def (HD) TV presents detail, clarity and colour, with images frequently 4xs as crisp as many traditional telly sets. To see the advantages of High Def television programmes you are required to possess a Hi-Definition Ready telly. Sky & Freesat have already started to give high-def programmes so you can now get an array of your beloved television programmes, films & sporting occasions with incredible life-like pictures. John Lewis sells Cheap Televisions from well-known brands such as Sony and Panasonic.

Built-In Digital Tuner: A TV with an integrated digital tuner (usually referred to as idTV) permits you to view all free to air digital TV channels, such as: E4, BBC3, Sky News and countless more without the need for a second set top box.

Freesat: A new digital satellite telly service provided through a partnership between the BBC & ITV, providing you free High-Def Television programmes at no extra price. Freesat has no eighteen-month contract, no payment subscription, but instead just one solitary fee for the television, satellite dish and installation. Plus because Freesat is broadcast via satellite, its accessible to roughly almost every house in the United Kingdom. Freesat TV is at this time only available through Panasonic TVs.

LCD or Plasma Televisions: Although LCD & Plasma tellies function in entirely different ways, the gains of both are particularly similar. Nonetheless, it’s important to remember that when choosing between a Plasma or LCD telly it is in actual fact only a question of size. LCD is at its peak performance up to & including thirty two inches, while Plasma delivers optimal performance at 37″ and beyond. For that reason, if you are looking to purchase a small flat panel television set, then (short for Liquid Crystal Display) offers the far greater performance, whereas on the other hand if you require a larger panel size, Plasma is considerably the ideal choice.

In evaluation it is very important to consider when picking the right television for you, to think about your available budget, your viewing distance, the appearance you crave & if it’s to be an LCD or Plasma television.

Mix Up Your Content to Drive More Traffic

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

Utilizing the kind of content that can be obtained on
free-reprint article directories is a good method of adding a
wider range of search keywords to your website. By increasing
the range of keywords on your website, you will find more of
your own links in the search results of the major spider
search engines.

A few of the “free-reprint article directories” I am referencing
include:

http://Content.thePhantomWriters.com

http://www.EzineArticles.com/

http://www.Marketing-Seek.com/

http://www.EbooksnBytes.com/

http://www.Family-Content.com/

http://www.Zongoo.com/

In truth, there are thousands of websites using these articles,
to build the traffic they derive from the spider search engines.

As one of the people who owns such a directory, I have noticed
in my tracking logs that interesting keyword combinations can
be achieved by mixing the actual content on your article pages.

Here is the deal.

Each article published may be found on dozens of websites. So,
even articles that I have written or distributed might be found
on other domains in the search results ahead of my own domain
pages. But, when I mix content on the page, I can get ahold of
keyword phrases that I would not be able to acquire by using
the article alone.

An example is that my name appears on every page of my domain
in the footer information. My name is “Bill.” Appearing on a
few of the article pages in my article directory is the words
“sell” or “sale.” I always find it interesting to see how many
people reach my site by using the keyword phrases “bill of
sell” or “bill of sale.”

As a result of these keyword phrases, I manage to generate
a substantial amount of traffic from people seeking a physical
copy of a “bill of sale.”

One more twist on this example is the idea that I could increase
my traffic another notch by including a real “bill of sale” on
my website that people can actually download and use. Not only
could I capture this actual traffic, but also the people who
came to my site from the search engines would be thrilled at
having found a printable “bill of sale.” Heck, they might even
bookmark my website as a resource and link to my site as an
additional web resource.

Hotel Fire Safety: Steps That You Should Take to Ensure That Your Stay is a Safe One

Friday, December 26th, 2008

Almost without exception, each of us has traveled away from our homes and stayed in a hotel, motel, or a bed and breakfast establishment. Oftentimes we become “relaxed” while away as we fail to make ourselves aware of the dangers a fire presents especially in an unfamiliar environment. Let’s take a look at some of the things you should do to minimize your risks while away from home.

Even before embarking on a trip, fire fighting experts strongly suggest you research to find out if your hotel has a fire safety plan in place. Does the establishment have smoke detectors and a sprinkler system? In addition, you should pull together and pack a personal survival kit which includes a flashlight, a portable smoke detector, and a roll of wide duct tape. When traveling abroad you should learn the word for “fire” in the native language.

Promptly upon check in you should ask about the hotel’s evacuation plan, find out where the fire alarms are located, and check to see if there are smoke detectors and a sprinkler system in your room. If the establishment is deficient in any of these areas, strongly consider staying somewhere else.

Once you are in your room check the windows to make sure they open and close properly (if they are not the sealed type). Identify at least two ways out of the room, if available, and learn how to unlock your door in the dark. Keep your room key and flashlight by your bed and remember where they are at all times.
Should a fire start in your room, leave immediately and bring your room key with you. Close the door and sound the fire alarm. Quickly walk to safety and do not use the elevator. Once you are on the ground floor, leave the building immediately.

If a fire begins elsewhere in the building take your key and a flashlight. Put the back of your hand against the door to see if it is hot and then check the hallway for smoke. If smoke has been detected, crawl low along the floor and exit by way of the first stairwell you see. Again, do not use the elevator.

If upon touching the door to your room you find it to be hot or if there’s a great amount of smoke in the hallway, the fire is nearby and you will need stay in your room. Call for help, fill the bathtub with water, and cram the bottom of the door with wet towels or a throw rug. Tape the edges of the door and, if possible, hang a sheet from a window to signal for help. If your windows are sealed, attempt to smash them open with a chair or other blunt instrument. Finally, wait for the fire professionals to come to you and never attempt to jump from your room’s window.

Do these preventative measures seem extreme to you? They may seem that way if you are not a frequent traveler. Many of the fire codes we take for granted in the USA are much lower — if not at all existent — in certain other countries. Take the necessary precautions before your trip to ensure that your stay at an establishment is a safe one.
